Exercise 4
Listening Prayer
Making Space to Hear God
Instructions
Find a quiet moment. Remove distractions if possible. Sit comfortably.
This is not about performing. This is not about striving.
This is about listening.
Ask: "Holy Spirit, what do You want to say to me right now?"
Key Insight
Hearing God often requires stillness.
We do not always need more input. Sometimes we need less noise.
God is speaking. We are learning to listen.
Step 1 — Ask
Write the question in your own words:
Step 2 — Listen
Sit in silence for 2–3 minutes. Do not force anything. Do not analyze in the moment. Simply pay attention.
You may notice:
Step 3 — Write What You Noticed
Without filtering or overthinking, write what came to mind:
Step 4 — Test and Discern
Reflect on what you wrote:
Does this align with Scripture?
Does this lead toward obedience, humility, or clarity?
Does this produce peace or direction—not pressure or confusion?
What do you discern?
Step 5 — Respond
If this is from God… what is your next step?
Personal Reflection
How did this experience feel?
What did you learn?
Reminder
You may not hear everything clearly at first.
Like Samuel, you may hear before you fully understand.
Discernment develops over time. Consistency matters more than intensity.
Hearing God is not about perfection.
It is about posture.
